This past weekend I channeled my inner-Cameron Diaz in The Holiday—my favorite Christmas movie of all time!
I love everything about this film—the idea that swapping homes with a complete stranger might completely change your life, the spontaneous way Amanda and Iris book their plane tickets to make the switch, the quaint, charming snow-covered town of Surrey, Amanda’s wardrobe, house, and humor, and of course, the fact that the film is written and directed by Nancy Meyers.
Her movies are what inspired me want to write romantic comedies and if I ever meet her in real-life I’m guaranteed to freak out as much—if not more—than Iris in The Holiday, when she arrives at Amanda’s house and realizes that this beautiful Beverly Hills mansion is where she’s going to be spending her Christmas.
The Holiday was one of the first movies that made me wish I could shop my favorite fictional characters’ clothes. I wanted to own all of Cameron Diaz’ outfits, and as I went shopping to recreate her wardrobe for this post, I realized why. When I tried on the jacket that resembles the one she wears during her trek to Rose Hill Cottage, I felt like Cameron Diaz in that movie.
I was instantly ready for a solo holiday adventure of my own! And I was filled with her character’s independence, spontaneity, and humor.

The same thing happened the other day when I put on a coat from Waiting at Hayden’s that Gianna wears in the book. It gave me that confidence boost I needed because I remembered how confident Gianna was in the story when she was wearing it.
If you’re feeling like you need a bit of gumption this holiday season and can’t seem to tap into it, check out these looks from Amanda’s wardrobe in The Holiday that I’ve recreated below. Who knows, maybe if you put one on, you might be hopping on a plane to somewhere new and magical too!
A two-toned coat
A black and white colorblocked dress (or skirt and top)
White Pajamas
Cream Satin Blouse
Cozy blue beanie, cableknit sweater, and gray sweats
Light Blue V-Neck Sweater
