Holiday Book Recommendations to Read During Christmas

This holiday season, with travel plans put on hold and cancelled family gatherings, most of us have a little extra time on our hands to read. Books have always been a comfort to me, and this year more than ever before, I’ve been grateful for stories.

While beach reads will always be my favorite to pick up, holiday books are a close second. You can count on most to deliver a bit of Christmas magic, wonderful wintry descriptions, romance, and a good dose of laughter—which I know we all could use a little extra of right now.

My favorite new release this Christmas season is also now my favorite holiday book to date: In A Holidaze by Christina Lauren. I loved the messages embedded in this story, the relationship between Andrew and Mae, and the descriptions of the winter cabin in Utah, where the book takes place. If you’re looking for a feel-good story with a bit of steam and a lot of snow, In a Holidaze is for you.

Since most of us aren’t traveling this holiday season, Jingle All the Way by Debbie Macomber is a great Christmas story that’s set on a cruise ship and involves adventure, love, and a protagonist reevaluating what truly matters.

Looking for a steamy Christmas romance? Charleston based author Sofia Sawyer has a new book out that might be perfect for you: Saving the Winchester Inn. Set in a small town during the holiday season, the story asks the question: “what if everything you’ve been looking for is right where you left it?”

For a light, cute read try Twelve Dates of Christmas by Jenny Bayliss. Set in a small town in England it tells the story of a woman who goes on twelve dates with twelve different men during the holidays.

 

From years past I loved and still recommend One Day in December by Josie Silver. This charming story set London is a book for anyone who’s ever spent time wondering if love at first sight exists.

A feel-good holiday story and the last book in Susan Mallory’s Happily Inc series, Happily This Christmas, is out now. And if you enjoy it, there are five other books in the series waiting for you to read next.

While The Return by Nicholas Sparks is not a Christmas story, it does have a reversible Christmas themed holiday cover, and in my opinion, there’s never a bad time to read a love story set in the South by Sparks.
