It’s probably no surprise that as a love story writer, I love going on dates. For years I used to agree to go out with anyone who asked—even when I wasn’t interested. I think it takes guts to ask someone out and I never wanted to turn anyone away who put himself out there. Plus, I find it fascinating to meet new people and love experiencing great moments—even if these moments don’t ultimately lead to a relationship. Over the years, I’ve had to amend that rule slightly when I’m single. While Waiting at Hayden’s isn’t autobiographical at all, writers do write what they know, and just like Gianna in Waiting at Hayden’s I’ve gone on some really, really bad first dates.
The good news is, getting ready to go on dates still excites me–both when I’m in a relationship and when I’m single. There’s something about putting on my favorite make up, choosing a flirty outfit, and making a cocktail to sip while I get dressed that I just love. Perhaps it really does have to do with the clothes. Or perhaps it’s because while I put them on there’s the promise that maybe—just maybe—at some point during the night there will be a moment that surprises me in the best possible way.
Here are a few of my favorite date night looks for summer that Gianna wears in the book and that you can shop!
